A FITNESS instructor from Chester has designed a course to help fight childhood obesity.

James Leighton, director of Living Fit, has devised the fitness programme for parents who are worried about their children’s long-term health.

Healthy Parents, Healthy Kids is a boot camp for parents built around research from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Centre for Health Policy Research, which found that people’s dietary habits and lifestyle choices are formed during childhood and are strongly influenced by the eating patterns and behaviour of their parents.

Jamie, 34, said: “Children, particularly of primary school age, learn from what their parents do. If they see mum eating lots of fast food in front of the TV, they are likely to do the same.ŠLikewise, if mum eats well and spends time exercising, then so will they.

Jamie’s boot camps, in Hoole and Handbridge, begin with a fat blasting, body sculpting one hour session followed by a 30-minute session on food education.

The Handbridge classes are on Mondays and Thursdays at Overleigh St Mary’s CE Primary School at 6 and 7pm. There is also an outdoor boot camp based on the same principles on Mondays and Thursdays at 9.30am in Hoole.
