Cestrians with a combined age of 1080 gathered at Chester’s Queen Hotel this weekend, to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday in style.

A range of ladies and gentlemen born in 1926 like the Queen were invited to enjoy a ‘Fit for her Majes-tea’ complementary afternoon tea in the hotel’s Albert Lounge to mark the ‘momentous’ day in history - and some even made new friends at the occasion.

All guests were asked to bring their birth certificates as ‘a bit of fun’ for those who never thought they’d be asked for ID again, and most attended with a family member as their plus one, including husband and wife Agnes and Glynne Jones who were not only both born in 1926 but who are also celebrating 67 years of marriage this year.

Another guest, Patricia Fitzgerald, who celebrated her official 90th birthday at the hotel in March this year, said: “It’s wonderful to return to the hotel and celebrate with fellow local 90-year-olds - I feel like The Queen getting to celebrate my birthday twice.”

Two other guests discovered they had lived just five doors down from each other more 50 years ago, although had never actually met before, and another even found someone to be her new golfing partner.

Simon Williams, general manager of The Queen Hotel, said: “This date marks a momentous occasion in history and we are delighted to celebrate our local residents, who have enjoyed our hotel over the decades as they too turn 90 with Her Majesty.

“It’s lovely to be able to bring people together, and it is heartwarming to see that some have even made new friends today. Could there be a more a fitting way to raise a toast to Her Royal Highness than with this Fit for her Majes-tea celebration at our aptly named Hallmark Hotel, Chester The Queen?”
