Chester Zoo staff are fast earning themselves a reputation as knights in practical blue polo shirts, coming to the rescue of visitors facing mechanical mishaps.

It’s been just nine months since guest experience assistant Paul Weaver hit the headlines when a note he left on a guest’s car, explaining how he had pumped up one of the tyres because it looked a bit flat, went viral.

Now one of his colleagues has won praise for a similarly heartwarming gesture.

Katherine Boyland took to the zoo’s Facebook page to thank the ‘lovely’ worker who took pity on her plight after her trip to the popular attraction on Friday (June 3).

The mysterious ‘Paul B’ overheard her saying she’d have to wait an hour and a half for a mechanic to sort her flat tyre as he walked past after clocking off for the day, even missing his bus home so he could ensure her safe onward journey.

Lovely day made lovelier

Katherine wrote: “Lovely day at the zoo today, made even lovelier by the zoo car park staff, lovely man called Paul B fixed my flat tyre after overhearing me saying it would be at least a 90 min wait for the breakdown people.

“He missed his bus and was so kind......all the staff at the zoo are fab and really approachable. Thanks Paul!”

'Anyone would have done the same'

The Chronicle has managed to track down Paul, a seasonal guest experience assistant, who insists his good deed was all in a day’s work.

“As I was leaving work and heading home for the day I just happened to overhear that one of our visitors had a flat tyre and had to wait 90 minutes for a recovery,” he said.

“So I thought I’d give them a helping hand and managed to get them back on the road fairly swiftly.

“The car park team are always helping out visitors with small gestures like this, but we just want to help people get home safely after a long day at the zoo – anyone else would have done the same.”
