Upgrades to railway lines between Chester and Wrexham mean it will be closed for a week.

Replacement buses will be put on for those travelling across the border as while the track is shut from November 9-13.

In the long run the improvements will provide faster and more frequent journeys for commuters.

Network Rail Wales route enhancement manager James Jackson said: “This work will pave the way for faster and more frequent journeys between North and South Wales as part of our railway upgrade plan.

“It will also mean a more reliable railway for the growing number of commuters travelling to and from Wrexham and Chester.

“I’d like to thank passengers in advance for their patience and look forward to providing them with a better, more reliable service.”

Maximum speeds between Chester and Wrexham will be increased, with the track also being ‘doubled’ so more trains can run.

Level crossings at Balderton, Pulford, Rossett and Saltney will all be made safer.

Rail passengers are facing further disruption due to a strike by Arriva Trains Wales drivers over pay from November 12-13.

Arriva Trains Wales service
Arriva Trains Wales services from Chester will be affected on November 12-13

This will affect lines from Chester to Birmingham, Cardiff and Manchester.

Funding for the upgrades has been provided by the Welsh Government and it is hoped the changes can boost growth in the local economy.

Engineers are also working on the Wrexham to Rhyl line, which is closed from November 7-8 and 14-15.

Again a replacement bus service is being provided.

The improvements are part of a larger plan to improve links to Cardiff.
