After winning £10,000 on a TV gameshow, Helen Wall thought she’d answered the most important question of her life - until her boyfriend popped an even bigger one just moments later.

The 29-year-old from Upton couldn’t believe her luck when she sailed through the audition to land a place on Deal or No Deal- and spent two weeks filming the episode that aired last month, which she described as a ‘rollercoaster experience’, supported by her boyfriend Jamie Veitch, 30, in the studio audience.

Helen, a Zumba teacher, said meeting presenter Noel Edmonds was the ‘experience of a lifetime’, and she proved a hit with her successful banking, despite Noel teasing her for being indecisive.

“I was so absorbed in the game, that the last thing on my mind was Jamie proposing.

“Little did I know that him and Noel had it all planned, although neither knew at what point in the game he was going to propose,” said Helen.

“Jamie was waiting for a signal from Noel for the go-ahead and it happened half way through my game when I had dealt £5,000.

“Next minute, Noel turned to Jamie said something like: ‘Do you think she would take this long to decide if you proposed?’, and Jamie replied: ‘Why don’t we put it to the test?’”

Helen recalled: “I was in shock, I didn’t know what was going on when Jamie came down from the audience and onto the stage with me ... I just kept saying ‘what are you doing?’ and he got down on one knee and said a lovely romantic verse to me, got a blue box out his pocket, opened the box and said ‘Will you marry me?’ in front of hundreds of people and I said YES!”

The couple carried on the game together and after Helen ended up with just a penny in her box, she then had to decide whether to take a chance on doubling her money by dealing another box, and to her delight, she ended up doing exactly that;.

“We both jumped up and screamed – it was a brilliant end to the game,” said Helen.

“Jamie proposed in a very original way and he always thinks outside the box, it didn’t really sink in that it was on national TV until it aired, and it was very surreal watching it back but I’m so glad we could as the day was a bit of a blur so I’m happy we could relive it.

“We’ve used the money to buy a new house and although have no wedding plans yet, Noel will certainly be invited!”
