Chester Town Hall has been displaying a giant white ribbon to mark the international campaign to eliminate violence against women.

Students and teachers from schools and colleges across Cheshire showed their pledge to end domestic abuse by signing the white ribbon, which marked the international day of Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25.

Cheshire West and Chester’s Domestic Abuse Partnership is made up of Cheshire Police, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Health Services, Probation, Victim Support, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Services, Crown Prosecution Service and the Drug Action Team.

Young people from schools and colleges across West Cheshire will be informed about teenage relationship abuse and where they can go for help.

As part of this teachers will be trained on spotting the signs and symptoms of abuse.

In children’s centres the banner has collected many signatures, there have been white ribbon displays and events have been held for families and children.

Cabinet member for culture, health and wellbeing Cllr Louise Gittins said: “The borough of Cheshire West and Chester has White Ribbon status which means that we are all united against domestic violence, pledging never to commit, condone or remain silent about domestic violence.

“Any physical or mental abuse by a partner is terrifying and November 25 highlighted our multi agency partnership approach to eradicate violence as well as the work carried out for survivors to help them rebuild their lives, ensuring that we can make a difference to victims and their families.”
