Chester MP Stephen Mosley has been visiting schools in the city to hear about pupils’ action on education in the developing world.

The Send My Friend to School campaign, run by the UK coalition of the Global Campaign for Education, encourages children to contact their MP about the millions of children in the world who do not go to school.

Mr Mosley visited Cherry Grove Primary School in Boughton and Belgrave Primary School in Westminster Park to collect their ‘friends’ while other schools have sent theirs directly to the Chester MP.

On his visit to Cherry Grove Primary School, pupils Sophie Pleavin, Bella Parkes-Jones, Katy Leigh, David Toma, Macey Kelsey and Lainey Evans gave a presentation to Mr Mosley about education in developing countries before  handing over their ‘friends’.

Commenting on the Send My Friend to School campaign, Mr Mosley said: “I’ve been a keen supporter of the UK’s commitment on aid and today we are doing more than ever before to help the poorest people in the world.

“We should all be proud that by 2015 11 million children will be in school thanks to UK aid.

“The UK’s aid commitment is transforming lives. And children across Chester involved in this campaign are part of that difference.

“I want to give my personal thanks to all the schoolchildren across Chester who have presented me with their ‘friends’. I will take them down to Parliament, give them to ministers and ask them to do all they can to make sure every child gets  access to education.”
