St George's Day celebrations in Chester today (Wednesday) had a ‘twist in the dragon's tale’.

Children from Chester primary schools Mill View, Upton Heath, Hoole, Waverton and Westlea, Charles Darwin Primary School in Northwich and Pine Lodge, Chester told their own version of George's battle with the legendary dragon in a pageant through the city centre.

The parade began at 11am and wound its way along Eastgate Street, Bridge Street and Northgate Street before a grand finale in the Town Hall Square, where Lord Mayor of Chester, Jill Houlbrook, had a regal role to play.

Organiser Russell Kirk, acting The Fool, said: “We told the traditional story with a twist in the dragon's tale. There were some not so pointy swords, lances and bows, helmets, flags, wimples and curious medieval disease.”
