A Bangor woman who had been shopping in Chester has spoken of her shock at finding a man hidden in the back seat of her car during a shopping trip to a Flintshire supermarket.

Susan Lunn, 56, is now warning people to be on “red alert” in the wake of the terrifying ‘distraction’ incident at Asda in Queensferry , which happened on Tuesday evening.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said it was making enquiries into the incident.

The incident happened after Susan had spent around an hour shopping in the store with friend Sharron Lloyd.

Susan told The Chronicle that prior to the incident, she had been loading her shopping into her car which was parked in a disabled bay at the front of the store while Sharron was still in the store paying for her shopping.

'Who knows what might have happened'

When Susan came to keep her trolley at just before 5pm she was approached by a man claiming his wife was in labour.

She said: “A gentleman then stepped out and said ‘help, help, my wife’ and gestured to his stomach.

“He then said ‘baby, baby. hospital, help’.

“I gave him directions and said he could follow us and we’d show the way as he seemed so distressed. He then gave me a pen and paper and I wrote down Glan Clwyd, Bodelwyddan, and then he took it and ran off.”

At around the same time, Sharron was on her way back to the car when she spotted a man get into the back of Susan’s vehicle.

Luckily, Sharron was able to shout across the car park to Susan.

Sharron then opened the car door and questioned the man, before he got out and ran away.

Susan said: “It was just terrible.

"I just don’t want this to happen to anyone else. It’s so scary. If it hadn’t been for my friend being with me, who knows what might have happened. It could have been a very different story.

“I’m worried that these men are targeting women on their own, or maybe vulnerable adults using disabled bays.

“It only takes a split second where you turn your back.

“These men were clearly professionals and it makes me cross that one tried to distract me as he genuinely made me feel as if he was in distress.”

A post on Facebook warning people about the incident has now been shared 4,316 times.

'Red alert'

She said: “I did not think there was anyone evil watching me and I do feel a bit vulnerable now and it’s made me wary.

“I just want people to be aware and warn them to be red alert, especially at this time of the year when people are busy shopping.”

A North Wales Police spokesman said: “We received reports about the suspicious behaviour of two men in the vicinity of Asda in Queensferry. The caller reported that a man had got into the back of her car while another asked for a lift to the hospital.

“It is not believed that any criminal offence was committed, but we are keen to trace the men and we are making further enquiries.”

An Asda spokeswoman said: “We’re currently assisting the Police with their investigation, and have briefed all colleagues to be extra vigilant.

"If any of our customers need assistance to their cars we’re more than happy to help.”
