As the music world mourns the loss of Motorhead frontman Lemmy, an unusual connection with Chester has emerged regarding the rock legend.
Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister died this week at the age of 70, just a couple of days after learning he had been diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.
Tributes have been pouring in for the man who led Motorhead since the band was formed in 1975 and have come from the likes of Dave Grohl, Ozzy Osbourne, Ice T and Gene Simmons of Kiss.
Many of Lemmy’s previous interviews over the years have also been revived and it is this that has led to the widespread reporting of an unexpected claim by the rocker involving an amorous encounter at Chester Station.
One of the sources of the anecdote was Spin magazine which printed this response from Lemmy to the question: What is the weirdest place you’ve had sex?
“On top of a photo booth in Chester Station in Northwest England. It was the only place we could find to be alone. Nobody saw us, because people never look up,” said Lemmy.
The claim has also appeared in the book Sex Tips From Rock Stars.
Motorhead did play a live gig in Chester on November 11, 1979 at the former ABC Cinema in Love Street.
