An impressive 27 teams took part in a tag rugby competition held at Chester Rugby Club.

Chester School Sport Partnership organised the Year 5 and 6 tag rugby event which featured an A and B competition where the A team winners will get to represent Chester at the Cheshire and Warrington School Games County Final in March next year.

Christleton High School and Chester-based coaching company CEPD supported the event by supplying some great referees and coaches.

The A competition proved to be a highly competitive affair with Mickle Trafford, St Oswald’s, Waverton and Huntington all winning their groups to progress to the semi-finals. Mickle Trafford and Waverton won their matches to make it to the final.

In a tightly contested final with some great sportsmanship Mickle Trafford came out as winners and will go on to the county final as the Chester schools representative team.

In the B competition there were 12 teams in total with some great rugby skills on show from all competitors.

The winners of the group stages were Saughall All Saints, Overleigh St Mary’s, Chester Bluecoat and Saighton who all went on to the semi-finals. The semi-finals were both tough matches seeing Saighton Primary School and Overleigh St Mary’s Primary School coming through as winners.

The final was again another fantastic game with Overleigh St Mary’s finally winning the B competition.
