A CHESTER pub team will be horsing around on Sunday as they try to stay afloat on the River Dee.

The Old Harkers Arms’ ‘Like a Horse’ is just one of more than 35 rafts due to battle it out near the Queen’s Park suspension bridge in the 36th annual Rotary Club charity raft race.

The fun kicks off at 10.30am on Sunday morning, July 3.

Paul Jeffrey from the Old Harkers Arms will be joined on board by wagon train driver Mike Skinner and cowgirl Emma Honeyborne.

The Harkers entry has entertained crowds in many previous years with their Batman, Lotus car and Titanic entries although Paul, who missed the event last year, says that this time they are aiming not to sink into the depths of the Dee before they reach the finish line, just over the weir.

The theme for the 2011 race is The Good,The Bad and The Downright Ugly and the main charity to benefit will be The Hospice of the Good Shepherd.

Spectators are invited to raise more funds by buying a programme.

The Rotary Club of Chester is grateful for sponsorship support from Bell Developments, City Office Furnishings, Urenco, Cheshire Waste and Skip Hire and Cestrian Loos.
