A Chester road has been closed in both directions following a ‘serious’ accident.

Emergency services were called to Ashton Lane in Ashton Hayes, near the A54 Holme Street, between Kelsall Hill and Tarvin roundabout, at around 6.30pm today (November 7) following the crash.

The road has been fully closed in both directions and queuing traffic is reported in the area.

It is understood serious injuries have been sustained, but police are unable to provide further information at this time.

It is not known how many vehicles are involved.

Diversions are in place and motorists heading westbound towards Chester are advised to take the A54/A556, A49, A51 and on to the Tarvin roundabout.

A Cheshire Police spokesman confirmed the accident was 'serious' and advised motorists to avoid the area.
