WITH Bonfire Night almost upon us, Cheshire West and Chester Council are warning residents to stay safe this weekend.

Many bonfire celebrations will be taking place all over West Cheshire, but did you know that hundreds of people get injured every year on November 5?

You may be surprised to learn that it is actually illegal to:

l Build and light bonfires in open spaces

l Light or throw a firework in a public

place

l Be in possession of a firework if

you are under 18

To help keep the community safe, the council has joined forces with Cheshire Police and

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to

remove all unofficial bonfires that are not part of an organised event.

They are also advising people to keep their wheelie bins within their properties in the build-up to Bonfire Night, and after their bins have been collected.

It is important for bins to be put out at 7am on collection day, with all waste contained within the bin.

If you spot an unofficial organised

bonfire, you can report to

Streetscene on

0300 123 7026, and this e hotline will be open from October 28

until November 6.
