How entertaining do you think Chester is compared to other cities in the UK?

If you think we fly the flag for fun, you might be surprised to learn the city has limped to a disappointing 39th place in a list of the 40 most visited tourist destinations.

Billed as a 'helpful new study' to assist fun-seekers settle their weekend plans, the list – complied by gambling website MrGamez – ranks the cities according to how many venues and entertainment attractions are in each place.

The list includes a fair few shockers, like big smoke London failing to even make the top 20, and Oxford scooping the top spot way ahead of the likes of Edinburgh, Manchester, Brighton and Liverpool.

Chester achieved just 17.4 out of a maximum score of 70.

Our highest ranking category in the criteria was Bars and Restaurants, which is no small surprise given the abundance of new watering holes and eateries popping up over the past few months.

We also did well for our many TripAdvisor Things To Do, but our picturehouse-less city scored low in the Cinemas and Theatres stakes.

It's not all doom and gloom, however, as Chester is more entertaining than Luton, which brought up the rear in last place, and with £37million cultural centre Storyhouse – which comprises a theatre, cinema and library – due to open in May 2017, hopefully we'll do better next year.
