Rail users may have to brace themselves for serious disruption to their journeys later this week.

Arriva Trains Wales says all services will be cancelled if a planned 48-hour strike by drivers in the ASLEF and RMT unions goes ahead on Thursday and Friday (November 13 and 14).

Upgrades to railway lines between Chester and Wrexham mean the line is closed this week , but passengers travelling between Chester and Manchester will be affected.

ASLEF today confirmed the industrial action is on.

A spokesman said: “The Executive Committee met with the Lead Officer and ATW Company Council this morning to consider two offers from the company.

“The EC found both offers to be unacceptable. The strikes planned for Thursday 12th and Friday 13th will go ahead.”

Customers are advised to make alternative travel arrangements for Thursday and Friday.

HR Director for Arriva Trains Wales Gareth Thomas said: “We are obviously disappointed that the drivers’ union has not accepted our improved pay offers and that they have opted to take industrial action even though negotiations are ongoing and progress continues to be made.”
