Preparations are well in hand for the 2016 Rotary Club of Chester Charity Raft Race.

On July 10, the River Dee in Chester will be covered with rafts of all shapes and sizes representing this year’s theme Chester Transport Throughout the Ages.

Following last year’s successful event, a steady stream of entrants have been registering on the website chesterraftrace.org.uk and organisers are expecting an increase in entrants against last year’s 37 rafts but there is still time to enter.

The Rotary Club of Chester president elect, Brendan Witter, has designated the Hospice of The Good Shepherd as the major benefactor of funds raised.

He said: “Chester Transport Through the Ages certainly provides huge scope for interpretation for design of rafts and based on previous year’s efforts we expect some very imaginative designs.”

The crowds on the banks of the Dee will be entertained by the skills of Jay St John who has now joined the event for the last two years. Also this year much more entertainment is being provided in the Meadows where children’s fairground rides and Disney characters will be in attendance.

There will be many more refreshment bars providing a variety of food produce.
