It may have been World Cup Final weekend but that didn’t stop thousands of visitors flocking to Chester Racecourse for the latest two day festival.

Horse racing, the country’s second biggest spectator sport, enjoyed its best attended paid-for day, with 110,000 people heading to racecourses across the country for Super Saturday.

And among them was Chester Racecourse, which was one of six tracks nationwide to welcome race fans.

Combining quality racing with picturesque surroundings and a glamorous crowd, the Corbett Sports City Plate Day is one of the most popular day’s racing at the course and the ultimate see and be seen event.

Richard Thomas, chief executive of Chester, said: “Super Saturday is the most popular paid for raceday in the UK’s racing calendar. There’s always a fantastic atmosphere for this day’s racing.”

Horse racing is the country’s second biggest spectator sport with nearly six million people attending each year.

A spokesperson for Chester Racecourse said: “It was a winning weekend for not only the racecourse, which attracted over 44,000 racegoers over the 2-day race meeting, but for one lucky punter.  A £24k Toyota car was presented to one lucky winner, Harry Challinor of Tarporley who won chesterBet’s easy6 promotion, all for a £2 stake.

"We now look forward to a three week break before Family Day on Sunday August 3 and if forecasts for fantastic weather are correct into July and August, we should be in for another great turnout.”
