Tens of thousands of racegoers, including a BBC TV presenter, were in attendance for the penultimate meeting of the Chester race season.

The penultimate meeting at Chester Racecourse last Friday and Saturday attracted 23,000 racegoers to the Roodee over the two days, according to the racecourse.

Spectators to the Betfair Autumn Festival included Mike Bushell of BBC Breakfast, who attended on Friday and saw a full card of seven races.

Children on the open course enjoyed free entertainment, which included the giant inflatable slide and bouncy castles.

Saturday’s feature race, the historic Stand Cup, which was first run at the Roodee in 1818, was won by Secret Number owned by Godolphin and ridden by James Doyle.

Head of PR, sponsorship and media at Betfair, Stephen Mault, said: “We were delighted to see so many racegoers attending the two days of racing.

“We hope everyone enjoyed their experience and had an opportunity to visit the successful Betfair Zone, which appeared for the first time at Chester last weekend.”

The team at Chester Racecourse is now preparing for the final race day of 2015, The Golden Square Shopping Centre Season Finale, which will be held on Saturday, September 26.
