ENERGY company ScottishPower says that, despite a series of power cuts across Chester since before Christmas, there are no problems with the city’s electricity supply.

There have been a number of disruptions to supply across Chester since early December.

Homes in the Hampton Road area of Lache were without electricity for about an hour on December 3, around 150 homes in Upton were without power for more than seven hours on December 16, a fault with an underground cable has affected businesses in Boughton and there have also been issues with supply to Watergate Street and Bridge Street in the city centre.

A spokeswoman for ScottishPower has apologised for the inconvenience, adding: “These are unrelated faults and there are no network problems in Chester.

“Severe weather caused frost to get into overhead equipment in Upton and the supply was disrupted from around 11.30am.

“Some customers were diverted to another supply and all homes were reconnected before 7pm.

“In Lache, homes were without power for less than an hour due to blown fuses at a substation in Hampton Road. The fuses were replaced and seem to be holding.

“The problems in the city centre were due to problems with substations in Foregate Street and Bridge Street. These have since been rectified.”
