A CHESTER nursery is celebrating 25 years of service with an ‘outstanding’ Ofsted rating.

Benison Day Nursery on Rake Lane received top marks across the board in a recent inspection by the educational watchdog .

And in the year that the nursery is celebrating 25 years of caring and educating youngsters in Chester, it couldn’t have come at a better time.

The Ofsted report looks for evidence of outstanding leadership and management, a enthusiastic and committed staff team and a happy environment for children.

Nursery manager Jan Tunnicliffe said all the staff were ‘delighted’ to receive the accolade.

“ Much of the credit for this result must be attributed to the extremely high calibre of staff at the nursery,” she said.

“We are fortunate to have a highly qualified, long term committed team of professionals who always have the children’s best interests at heart and strive tirelessly to this end.

“The fact that this year is also Benison’s 25th birthday meant that we all enjoyed a double celebration recently!

The nursery first opened its doors in 1986 with just four staff including the owner and principal Julie Swinnerton.

It was originally housed in just one building and catered for 24 children from aged two to school age, but 25 years on, Benison operates from three purpose-built buildings and caters for 76 children from birth to school age, as well as operating an after school and holiday club for older children.

Julie Swinnerton added: “I am so proud to be the principal of Benison Day Nursery, it is a really special place for young children.

“This latest inspection result reflects the hard work and dedication of a team of people who always have the best interests of the children at heart.”
