CITY MP Stephen Mosley flew into Chester’s award winning 610 Squadron ATC to present awards and found himself surrounded by enthusiastic activity.

Everything from a flight simulator to first aid was on offer to almost 100 teenagers at the squadron headquarters at Abbots Park.

Welcomed by CO Fl Lt Charles Rayment and a smart guard, the MP saw for himself just what the squadron does to keep the cadets, from the Chester area, occupied on Tuesday and Friday evenings.

The MP was given a guided tour of the facilities and was shown around the different activities the teenagers take part in.

Groups were busy practising their shooting skills on the range, taking part in drill, rehearsing for the squadron band, enjoying a flight simulator and improving their radio communications.

They were also carrying out first aid in a pitch dark, smoke filled room simulating a train crash and getting to grips with a practical lesson helping them prepare for their Duke of Edinburgh award expeditions.

At the start of the evening, Mr Mosley accompanied Merseyside Wing Commander Les Keane on an inspection and to conclude the visit helped to present 14 BTEC awards to cadets.
