A fitness fanatic is taking on a 24-hour Tough Mudder marathon for the second year in a row.
Jon Park, who works at Stanlow Oil Refinery in Ellesmere Port, is back for more even though he admitted the run ‘broke’ him.
The 30-year-old raised more than £7,000 for Claire House Hospice last year and hopes to top £10,000 this time around.
Jon, from Chester, said he had been in the gym every single day in preparation for the challenge.
He said: “I was pleased with my effort last year, but as soon as I got home I started to think I could have done better.
“That’s why I really want to give it another go.
“I’m training every day because I really want to do better than last year and hopefully raise as much money as possible for Claire House Hospice.
“It’s a charity I’ve always supported so if I can get anywhere near last year’s total I’ll be really pleased.”
World’s Toughest Mudder takes place in Las Vegas across November 12-13.
Athletes must run as many laps as they can of the five-mile course, which has 25 obstacles including walls, jumps, electric shocks and ice baths, in 24 hours.
The Stanlow worker is out to beat the 60 miles he completed in 2015.
After finishing he said it was the ‘single hardest task I have ever done’ and left him ‘broken’ mentally and physically.
But that has not stopped him signing up again.
Jon has had support from his gym, sports supplement company, a nutritionist and triathlon coach Sally Napthen in his quest to get fitter.
Already this year he has ultra-marathons, obstacle courses and commando trails.
Jon said: “I’ve been really lucky with the generosity of local businesses.
“The support has been brilliant and it’s driving me on to train even harder.
“Vegas is my biggest challenge, so my training is going up another gear to make sure I’m ready for everything it throws at me.”
Claire House Children’s Hospice helps support seriously and terminally ill children across Merseyside and Cheshire.
So far Jon has raised £1,065 for the cause.
