As most people prepare to head home for the weekend, we've rounded up the latest news from the key roads for commuters in and out of Chester today (Friday, September 18).

We will be updating the status of the major routes throughout the afternoon.

Congestion has eased westbound on the M56 near Frodsham and Helsby, but eastbound coming back to Chester may be slightly delayed.

For those travelling further afield, there is slow traffic on the M6 northbound after an accident between Knutsford and the Lymm Interchange with the M56.

A tailback which had built up from the M53 Northbound at junction 11 has now been cleared.

At 12.57pm a car collided with the barrier on the slip road heading on to the M56.

An ambulance was called off as there were no injuries, but traffic was temporarily stopped shortly after 2pm to allow the vehicle to be removed.

The A41 in Christleton has now been cleared after reports of a collision involving a cyclist near Rowton Bridge Road.

Traffic is already converging on the Chester Ring Road and the A56 Hoole Road in both directions so there will be some delays for those trying to escape the city centre.

Heading towards Deeside, there is slow traffic on A494 Westbound between Queensferry and Drome Corner.

No rail delays have been reported.
