A FOUR-STAR hotel says wages arrears to past and present staff will be repaid over time.

The Chronicle continues to receive phone calls and emails about the wages issue at Crabwall Manor, Mollington, following a take-over by Antler Hotel Corporation.

General manager Grant Upton accepts past and current staff are owed money but said this was being addressed through ‘a structured schedule of payment’.

He confirmed the restaurant had to close on Valentine’s Day when kitchen staff walked out over the wages dispute.

Former waiter Catalin Sabo, 22, who stopped working on January 6 after resigning, says he is owed about £1,400.

Cat, who is studying mental health at West Cheshire College, said: “I don’t understand what type of company would do this. It’s just a horrible situation.”

“This is no way to treat somebody who is hard-working and honest,” added Cat, who worked at Crabwall Manor for almost three years and is taking the case to an employment tribunal.

Cat believes several more hotel staff will quit their posts once they have received the money owed.

General manager Grant Upton told The Chronicle there had been an issue with the former owners and it had taken time for Antler to set up systems like pay roll for Crabwall Manor and the other seven hotels in the chain.

But he insisted: “Every single person will get every single penny.”

Antler Hotels spokesman Glen Pearson was not prepared to discuss the matter with the media.
