A FAMILY jam recipe is proving to be a sweet success after selling out at Sainsbury’s.

University of Chester graduate Sajmira Cairns and her husband Andrew created the Mammy Jamia’s range of preserves based on a family recipe passed to her by her mother.

After a small start from a market stall, the Wirral couple now sell their jam range at Sainsbury’s.

They did a sampling session in the Chester store as part of a charity event – and the store sold out.

Andrew said: “It was a great day and we received lots of very positive feedback from shoppers.”

Mammy Jamia’s has been available in 216 Sainsbury’s stores nationwide for two months now and sales figures have been ‘very strong’, especially for the fig flavour.

Andrew explained: “The fig preserve has sold more than 1,000 jars a week over the last few weeks which is very encouraging.

“The Sainsbury’s stores in Cheshire Oaks and Chester have both had to re-order it after selling out, which was brilliant. Some might call it Fig-tastic!”
