TELEVISION stars received a right royal welcome to the North West last week – with the help of some king-sized Chester VIPs.

ITV Britain’s Got Talent presenters Ant and Dec were welcomed to Blackpool by a troupe of giants from Chester.

The diminutive duo were in the seaside town for the North West auditions of the talent show, which will hit our screens later this year.

The promenade in Blackpool was closed for the welcome carnival, with crowds turning out to spot the cheeky twosome in an open-top Triumph Stag sports car.

They were followed by the giant Prince William, his wife Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, and the Queen – all part of the Chester the Giant City project.

Project director Kristine Szulik said: “It was a really blustery day when we arrived in Blackpool in the early hours of the morning and it was a real challenge to build the giants.

“By the time the film crew and auditionees arrived though the wind had died down and it had brightened up nicely.”

There will be a parade of 60 community Queen Elizabeth II giants through Chester on Monday, June 4, to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
