Chester games company launches boardgames that double as artwork at world’s largest toy fair in Germany

ARTWORK that doubles up as boardgames will be launched by a Chester company at the largest toy fair in the world.

ARTWORK that doubles up as boardgames will be launched by a Chester company at the largest toy fair in the world.

Adrenaline Brush, based in Hoole, has created a range of ‘Games in Frames’ which will be released this year after going on display in Nuremburg, Germany, next month.

Director Nellie Maan, who set up the firm in 2006, chose Chester as home due to the city being “less frantic” and its proximity to the countryside.

She is hoping that customers will buy into the idea of having boardgames hanging on the walls of their homes due to their aesthetic qualities.

“We started off making traditional board games but there was just no way we could compete with the likes of Hasbro who can pump millions of pounds into production,” she said.

“So we thought why not combine our skills as artists and take an artistic approach to games rather than a digital approach.

“It’s been amazing. People have actually started buying the games as much for the art as the playability of the game.”

The games, one of which concentrates on the property market called Premium Properties and is designed from houses in Hoole, taking 100 hours to paint, will be available to buy from March.

Nellie and her colleagues believe that traditional boardgames are being forgotten and that their innovative range will restore them in the family home.

“It is quite a radical idea,” she said. “You can have friends around and if one of them says ‘I like that piece of art’, you can just physically take it off the wall and start playing.

“Boardgames are much better for getting people talking to each other and improving communication”.
