There will be changes to Cheshire West and Chester Council’s libraries opening times during the festive period.

All libraries will close at 1pm on Thursday, December 24 (Christmas Eve) and will remain closed for the bank holidays on Friday, Saturday and Monday (December 25, 26 and 28).

In the period between Christmas and New Year, six libraries will be available for library customers – Chester, Ellesmere Port, Frodsham, Neston, Northwich and Winsford will be fully open on Tuesday, December 29, Wednesday, December 30 and Thursday, December 31. All other libraries will remain closed.

These six libraries will close at 5pm on Thursday, December 31 and will remain closed for the January 1 bank holiday.

Cllr Louise Gittins, Cabinet member for health and wellbeing, said: “Six of our libraries across the authority will be open as usual during the festive period but don’t forget that you can search, reserve and renew items on-line, at any time of the day or night, on the council website.

“You can also find out more about the wide range of eResources available. A 24 hour telephone line for renewals is available too, by calling 0845 148 0 148.”

In addition, in Chester, Ellesmere Port, Northwich and Winsford libraries on Tuesday, December 29, Wednesday, December 30 and Thursday, December 31 there will be staff from the council’s customer services team offering basic information and a selection of services.

All libraries will open as usual on Saturday, January 2, except Hoole, which will open on Monday, January 4.
