If you have plans to spend your Easter weekend out and about, Saturday (March 26) is the day to avoid as forecasters are predicting strong winds and heavy rain across Cheshire for most of the day.

Although sunny intervals are predicted for Good Friday, the rest of the weekend isn't looking too promising with showers expected on Easter Sunday and more rain on bank holiday Monday.

The Met Office say the weekend will start well, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 12 degrees C on Friday. It will be a 'largely dry and fine day with sunny spells', although cloudier conditions are expected as the afternoon progresses.

Gusts expected on Saturday

Saturday will start off dry but a swathe of strong winds, accompanied by heavy rain at times, will move east across the region.

Gusts of 45-55mph, perhaps 60mph later, are forecast and a yellow weather warning is in place from 6am to 9pm, covering Cheshire West and Chester as well as Cheshire East.

Easter Sunday looks brighter but 'frequent showers' are expected, and it will be 'locally heavy and thundery with gusty winds'.

Forecasters say there is potential for more wind and rain on Monday, so make sure you have an umbrella handy.
