CHESHIRE West and Chester Council is asking communities to support a national programme which will see areas of land becoming dedicated Queen Elizabeth II Fields.
The initiative is part of a nationwide programme to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and is led by its patron the Duke of Cambridge.
As a land owner the council would like to support this project which sets minimum criteria around quality and accessibility of land, as well as protecting the sites as public open spaces.
People have until October 31 to complete the QEll expression of interest nomination form at www.cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk or telephone Helen Pearce, Leisure Development, Health and Wellbeing Manager on 01606 288548 and the council’s Executive will decide which sites to progress at the end of this year.
“The nominated land must have the principle use of outdoor sport, play and or recreation” said Councillor Stuart Parker, executive member for culture and recreation.
“The minimum acceptable size is half an acre or 0.2 of a hector and the site must be open and accessible to the public.
“There are many such sites owned by Cheshire West and Chester Council and I would urge everyone to put their favourite forward for consideration as a Queen Elizabeth ll Field.
“We are asking community groups and local people for their help in nominating a piece of land.”
