Chester city centre roads to close for private funeral of Detective Constable Elaine McIver

Roads in Chester city centre will shut to traffic for a period to enable the private funeral of Detective Constable Elaine McIver to take place on Friday (July 14).

DC Elaine McIver, who served with Cheshire Constabulary, was tragically killed in the terrorist atrocity at Manchester Arena in May.

A private service will be held for her at Chester Cathedral.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has issued a temporary traffic regulation order which prohibits vehicles from the following lengths of road from 10.30am until 4pm:

  • Northgate Street – From Hunter Street to Eastgate Street
  • St Werburgh Street – Full length​
  • Eastgate Street – Full length
  • Foregate Street – From Eastgate Street to St John Street
  • St John Street – Full length

The order will also prohibit waiting and loading on:

  • Northgate Street from Hunter Street to St Werburgh Street from 10.30am until 4pm
  • St Werburgh Street from Northgate Street to Bell Tower Walk from 9am until 4pm

Pedestrian access to premises situated on or adjacent to the roads will be maintained at all times.
