The headteacher behind the proposed Christleton International Studio school has confirmed an offer has been made on city centre premises but isn’t allowed to say any more at this stage.

Tony Lamberton, head of Christleton High School, the sponsor school, said due to procurement rules he can’t discuss the potential site for the new school which will open in September 2016 for 14-19-year-olds.

He told The Chronicle: “We have an offer on a city centre site. There has been a huge amount of interest.

"I recognise that it becomes real when people know where it’s going to be.”

A launch event is taking place at Christleton High on the evening of Tuesday September 22 when the location may be announced, if not before.

A new type of free school for 300-400 students, the school will be for all abilities and aims to ‘better prepare young people for the working world’ with close working relationships with local employers.

Among the potential candidates could be the former Quick’s Ford dealership in Lower Bridge Street, City Place by the railway station, the former Lloyds Bank site at Knights Court in Weaver Street, sharing with university students in the new Business School at Queen’s Park or West Cheshire College’s Handbridge site which is likely to close in the foreseeable future.
