The Chronicle and Big Yellow Storage Toy Appeal is currently in full swing and we’ve had some great support from businesses across Chester who want to help under privileged children and families receive gifts in time for Christmas.

The Toy Appeal, now in its tenth year, aims to receive as many donations as possible in order to distribute new toys and gifts to various local charities in time for the big day.

Last year those charities actually delivered some of the presents on Christmas Day itself to those in real need of a gift to open on December 25.

There has been tremendous support from the likes of Argos on the Greyhound Retail Park, and Royal Mail on Jupiter Drive.

The management team at Argos have helped contribute many gifts to the Toy Appeal while Royal Mail have a donation box set up in their reception area. The Co-Op in Westminster Park also have a ‘donation station’ in their shop.

Jeff Banks, business development manager at Big Yellow Self Storage on Sealand Road, praised those helping to swell the numbers of gifts being donated this year.

He said: “It’s been a fantastic response so far to the appeal and to have the support of businesses like Royal Mail, Argos, and the Co-Op – names that everyone knows - is great and I’m sure they will make a huge difference to this year’s Toy Appeal.

“Those businesses have joined local schools, sports clubs, and the general public in helping us secure as many donations as possible for those less fortunate than ourselves who otherwise may not have had a present to open this Christmas. This week we have even had a very kind lady drop off over £1000 worth of gifts to the Toy Appeal which is an unbelievable gesture.”

There is still time to donate, with new toys and gifts welcome up to and including December 20, before they are then distributed to local charities including The Babygrow Appeal, Local Solutions and Save the Family.

The appeal is looking for new gifts for children from babies up to those of 16 years of age. These presents need to be unwrapped so the right gift can be selected for the chosen child.
