A charity 'Kindness Wall’ devoted to providing supplies for the homeless on the streets of Chester has been ransacked.

The Share Shop on Northgate Street puts clothes, food and water outside for those in need each night.

Staff came in to find the Kindness Wall ‘all over the place’ on Friday morning (June 17).

A bottle of water had been drunk and half refilled with urine.

'Disgraceful'

Share Shop co-founder Adam Dandy said: “It’s just disgraceful really.

“I had seen there had been a bit of trouble in the city centre on Facebook and sure enough when the manager got in this morning the wall was all over the place.

“Karma will come for them and it won’t deter us from carrying on.

“We’ve been putting the kindness wall out since January and we’ve had absolutely nothing happen.”

It was a busy day and night in the city centre on Thursday with football fans in pubs and bars from 2pm to watch England versus Wales at Euro 2016.

Adam said the matter had been referred to Cheshire Police and he believed there may be some CCTV footage of the incident.

Share, short for Supporting Homeless Assisting Refugees Everywhere, were flooded with messages of support from the public.

Back in February Adam told the Chronicle the idea for the kindness wall was born after learning that such walls existed in Iran.

People are invited to hang up clothes or bags of sweets – complete with a message for the recipient – for those living rough or who find themselves in dire financial straits to help themselves to.

Adam said: “We know 99% of people are behind us and unfortunately it’s just the 1% who do things like this.

“We really, really appreciate people’s generosity as there’s an enormous amount of people sleeping rough on the streets of Chester.”

Cheshire Police said there were no football-related arrests made anywhere across the county on Thursday.
