GYMNASTS from Chester Catholic High School have come out on top in a city-wide competition.

The Year 8 and Year 9 teams topped the table in the recent Chester and District gymnastics competition beating opposition from Abbey Gate College, Bishop Heber, Blacon, Christleton and Upton high schools, The King’s School and The Queen’s School.

Organiser Hayley Waites, PE teacher and head of Year 12/13 at Chester Catholic High School, said: “The standard across all schools was extremely high this year and lots of young sports leaders were in attendance demonstrating their coaching skills as well as all the PE teachers encouraging their students.

“It was a thoroughly enjoyable competition with gymnasts performing some of the best routines we have seen over the past six years.

The Year 8 and 9 teams from Chester Catholic High both won gold with their polished floor routines.

Mrs Waites added: “The girls thoroughly deserve their gold medals after all the hard work and time they have spent perfecting their routines, it’s a great way to end 2012.”

The competition was judged by British Gymnastics judges from Neston Gymnastics Club and pupils enjoyed a display from gymnasts from Saltney Gymnastics Club.
