The trial of a man accused of the theft of a priceless icon from Chester Cathedral has been adjourned for the second time.

Vasilijs Apilats, 61, was due to begin a two-day trial at Chester Crown Court on Wednesday (September 14), but it will now not be heard for another two months.

The trial was originally listed for January 2016, but was adjourned.

A new trial date has been fixed for November 30.

Apilats, of Edleston Road in Crewe , denies one charge of stealing an 18th century Greek orthodox icon depicting the Raising of Lazarus from the cathedral's Chapel of St Anselm in August 2014.
