CHORISTERS at Chester Cathedral are tuning up for Christmas, their busiest season of the year, as preparations for Advent and Christmas get under way.

The festive season kicks off with the candlelit Advent procession this Sunday, November 28 at 6.30pm.

The annual Cathedral Choir carol concert is on Saturday, December 18 at 7.30pm and BBC Radio 3 will broadcast choral evensong live from the cathedral on December 22 at 4pm.

Two services of nine lessons and carols are at 6pm on December 23 and at 3pm on Christmas Eve.

Director of music, Philip Rushforth, is recruiting boy choristers, aged eight or nine, for the choir.

He said: “They need to enjoy singing and hold a tune.”

There is also a Saturday Singing Club from 10-11.30am open to all children aged six to 11. It costs £2 a week plus refreshments. Contact Carmella De Lucia on 01244 324 756 or email carmella.delucia@chestercathedral.com
