ANOTHER piece in the jigsaw is about to be unveiled for Chester’s new business quarter.

Manchester-based Muse Developments will soon submit plans for its first office building and public realm on a 3.5 acres site bought from Lloyds Banking Group linked to nearby Chester Railway Station by a walkway.

A masterplan is being lodged along with detailed plans for the first phase, including a 70,000 sq ft office block, following permission being granted last week for the Waitrose supermarket and shot tower housing scheme in the same area.

Premier House, currently occupied by Lloyds Banking Group, will demolished to make way for the Muse scheme, but Lloyds will retain a presence at the site.

Artists’ impressions displayed at public consultations show brand new glass office buildings with public spaces featuring greenery, seating and fountains emerging from the ground.

Being close to the station means workers would be able to commute to and from the site with ease and in an environmentally-friendly fashion.

Chester Renaissance says the new business quarter has the capacity to deliver 500,000 sq ft of much needed Grade A office space alongside residential and complementary leisure facilities.

It is anticipated the business quarter, built in phases over a 15-year period, could create more than 1,100 new jobs bringing economic benefit for the city and wider area.

Renaissance is aware of the need to manage the process so the business quarter does not have a damaging impact on the city centre or the Chester Business Park in Wrexham Road.

A earlier vision document speculated the business quarter could even attract government departments if Whitehall is broken up and relocated to cheaper parts of the UK.
