A burglar who stole jewellery from a 92-year-old woman has been sentenced to two-and-a-half years in prison.

Matthew Green, 26, of Melbourne Road, Blacon, Chester, pleaded guilty to the break-in committed on June 4 at the pensioner’s home.

The 92-year-old victim was alone when she was disturbed by Green in the upstairs bedroom as he took her jewellery.

Green, described by the judge as ‘a career burglar’, was chased by police and arrested on Morton Road 15 minutes after the offence was reported. The jewellery was recovered by a police dog close to where Green was arrested.

DS Ian Smith, of Chester Policing Team, said: “Green’s actions have had a devastating effect on his victim, leaving her feeling anxious and nervous. He thoroughly deserves to be behind bars and I’m pleased justice has been served.”

Green pleaded guilty at Chester Crown Court on Monday (July 4, 2016).
