Britain's stop-start summer looks set to get well and truly back underway next week.

Sun worshippers will be delighted to hear that forecasters are predicting temperatures of around 30°C in parts of the country from Monday (August 15).

A 'Spanish plume' of hot air will sweep in from the south, causing the mercury to rocket.

Met Office forecaster Alex Burkill said: "Temperatures are likely to climb.

"At the moment they are a little bit below average for the time of year because of the north-western flows.

"As we go through the week it will come more from the south-west, by the end of the week, and then towards the beginning part of next week we will then be drawing air from the south, and so on Monday and Tuesday we are quite likely to see temperatures getting into the low thirties."

Chester was one of the hottest places in the North West when a mini heatwave hit towards the end of last month.

The nearest Met Office observation site to Chester is in Hawarden, where a scorching maximum temperature of 31.7°C was recorded.

But don't get too carried away, as thunderstorms are expected to spoil the fun on Wednesday (August 17).
