Congestion on two major routes followed an accident on the outskirts of Chester involving a car described as being precariously balanced.

The incident happened just after 1pm on Thursday (May 1) when the small saloon, a Volkswagen Up, left the road while travelling Wrexham-bound along the A483 just after the Post House roundabout.

Fire crews were called because the car was “precariously stuck” at the top of an embankment leaving the elderly couple scared to get out in case it unbalanced the vehicle.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service made the car safe then released the man and woman who were handed over to paramedics for precautionary checks.

North West Ambulance Service confirmed there were no injuries and nobody was taken to hospital.

However, the A483 Wrexham Road was closed for about 20 minutes causing congestion on the Wrexham-bound carriageway and queuing traffic on the adjacent A55 westbound in Chester between J38, A483 (Posthouse roundabout) and J36a, Chester (Broughton Shopping Park).
