Former Cheshire West and Chester Council leader Mike Jones is to step down from the top role in the Conservative opposition.

Cllr Jones has said he will not be putting his name forward for reselection at the Tory group’s annual meeting, where his successor will now be decided.

He made the announcement through an interview with The Chester Blog.

Cllr Jones said the decision was due to business commitments.

The Tattenhall representative led CWaC before losing control to Labour’s Samantha Dixon in a tightly contested election in May 2015.
