You may have been able to predict it, but Cheshire West and Chester has been revealed as the most Welsh place in England.

Figures show more people moved from Wales to the borough than any other area in the UK in the past four years.

It could help explain why so many secret Dragons fans have emerged during Euro 2016.

Unfortunately their replica kits will have to be put away for now, as Gareth Bale and the team’s brave run came to an end in the semi-finals at the hands of Portugal on Wednesday.

A total of 8,590 people moved across the border from Wales to Cheshire West between 2012-2015.

For some it could have been as simple as moving down the road from Saltney to Lache. Many commuters will cross the dividing line each morning to get to work.

The data, which come from the Office of National Statistics, shows Bristol and Shropshire were the next council areas in line for the most Welsh settlers.

Some 6,810 went to Scotland, while 4,770 went to Liverpool, and 4,580 to Manchester.

All in all 203,190 people moved from Wales to other parts of the UK over the four-year spell.
