Cheshire West and Chester Council librarians have found a mystery photo of a branch library – and want your help in tracing it.

Staff are gearing up for National Libraries’ Day on February 8 and with the help of officers from Cheshire’s Record Office, are sorting through old photographs so that they can be displayed.

And in a box Record Office staff came across a mystery photo.

Cllr Lynn Riley, executive member for localities, said: “February 8 is an annual event celebrating the diversity of libraries and reinforcing their role as a focal point in their local communities.

“The mystery photo was found in a box which contained many old library photos but this one cannot be identified.

“It is thought that it is a scene from an old Cheshire West library but it could be from further afield in east Cheshire, or even Wirral, Halton or Warrington, from the days when these areas were part of Cheshire County Council.

“If you recognise the library or the people in the photo please let us know and we can make sure that it is displayed in the correct library and also take a new photo if we can trace any of the people too.”
