A promotional offer for over 60s at the Blue Planet Aquarium ends on Tuesday, December 15.

The popular attraction at Cheshire Oaks has been running the offer which enables free entry to anyone aged over 60.

Valid on Silver Tuesdays only, it represents a saving of £14.50 off the usual concessions entry price.

The deal is the first time the award-winning aquarium has trialled such a generous promotion with bosses believing it would prove highly popular.

Blue Planet Aquarium’s Phil Jones said: “This really is a pretty unprecedented offer, we’ve never done anything like it before.

“There are absolutely no strings attached, you just turn up on any Tuesday, between now and December 15 this year with proof of age and you’ll be welcomed in for free.”

Increase in mature visitors

He continued: “Aquariums have traditionally been seen as a place for young families to visit but recently we have seen a significant increase in the numbers of more mature visitors.

“We decided Silver Tuesdays would be a great way to provide both existing and new customers with an extra incentive to come and see what we have to offer them.

“Our aquarists particularly enjoy giving talks to older groups as the level of feedback is always high and they’re often able to go into more details about specific subjects.”

Underwater discovery

Home to more than 100 living displays in six specially-themed areas, the feature offers a whole world of underwater discovery.

At the aquarium’s heart is the Caribbean Reef display with almost four million litres of water.

A 230ft underwater tunnel houses one of Europe’s largest collection of sharks including 3m sand tiger sharks.

Other displays are home to everything from mudskippers and archer fish to lion fish and moray eels.

There are daily Aquatheatre shows where people can watch the divers as they feed the fish via a huge underwater viewing window.

Other exhibits at Longlooms Road include seahorses, starfish, piranhas, snakes, freshwater turtles and otters in their spacious outdoor holt.
