BUSINESSES in the county could save themselves large sums of money by becoming more resource efficient, says Groundwork Cheshire.

Groundwork Cheshire’s e3 business service, which works to improve the quality of the local environment and the success of local business, is offering companies free resource efficiency audits of their premises.

Groundwork Cheshire manages a £1million investment into services that can help businesses identify substantial savings on heating bills, waste management, raw materials, energy and environmental efficiency.

In recent years the resource efficiency audits have helped Cheshire companies identify in excess of £10million of savings.

Cheshire companies already benefiting from energy savings include, The Feathers Hotel Group, which saved £110,000, Crewe Alexandra Football Club, which has identified a potential saving of £15,000 by using rain water to create a cheaper alternative source of water for its sprinkler and irrigation system, and Tullis Russell Coaters at Macclesfield which cut its gas expenditure by £59,000 a year.

Greville Kelly from Groundwork Cheshire said: “The large savings we have been able to identify for businesses so far are a great example of how it pays for companies to ‘go green’ and think about energy efficiency.

“I hope these savings highlight the advantages of thinking green and serve to encourage other businesses across Cheshire to act on lowering their business costs and carbon emissions.”
