Two talented dancers from Sir John Deane’s College have landed places at one of Europe’s top dancing schools.

Ellena Vickers and Eleanor Trow have received offers to study for a BA honours degree in contemporary dance at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in south east London.

Dance teacher Esther Wingate said: “We are delighted for Ellena and Eleanor. Trinity Laban’s Faculty of Dance is one of Europe’s leading centres for the training of professional contemporary dance artists, with one of the largest teams of specialist contemporary dance artist teachers in the world.”

The Guardian’s University Guide has rated the course the best of its kind in the country for dance or drama for the past four years.

Laban graduates include Sir Matthew Bourne, Luca Silvestrini (Protein Dance) and many other influential figures in the world of contemporary dance including dance scientists, choreographers and performers.

Both girls are currently studying A Level dance at SJD.

Ellena was a former pupil of Upton High School and Eleanor was at Eaton Bank Academy. Both attend the Centre for Advanced Training at The Lowry in Manchester – working with professional companies including Wayne McGregor’s Random Dance and are active members of Cheshire’s Homegrown Dance Theatre.

The girls will be taking part in an A Level dance evening held in the college theatre from 7pm on Thursday, March 17.

Anyone is welcome to attend the evening and tickets are priced £2 (available from the SJD college reception).
