Travel disruption and power outages could be on the cards on Monday (February 1), as severe gale force winds are expected to hit the region.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of wind for Cheshire West and Chester, which will be in force from 12.05am to 11.55pm.

The borough could see gusts of up to 80mph, particularly in exposed areas.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Please be aware of the risk of disruption to transport as well as power supplies.”

Advice for drivers

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is urging motorists to take extra care on the roads during periods of high winds.

Drivers are advised to check the forecast before setting out and to leave extra time for journeys if travel conditions are poor.

“As wind speed increases the pressure it exerts on your car increases too,” a service spokesperson explained.

“Wind rarely blows steadily, and sudden gusts can catch-out even the most experienced driver.

“Expect sudden gusts at any time but particularly on open stretches of road, when passing bridges or gaps in hedges or when overtaking high-sided vehicles.”
