Beaver Scouts from four local Scout groups completed a six-mile hike to raise money for poor and disadvantaged children around the world.
Beavers, aged six and seven, from 1st Sandstone Scout Group based on Bickerton Hill were joined by Beavers from Cestrian, 42nd Chester and 1st Tarporley Scout groups and seven Scouts from 1st Sandstone acting as guides – a total of 103 young people.
Together with their leaders, families and friends they all completed the six miles along the Sandstone Trail from Bickerton Hill to Beeston Castle.
On arrival, the young people got free admission to explore Beeston Castle where they found a disabled Peregrine Falcon which they reported and guarded until a keeper arrived.
“The children deserve a prize for just turning up” said Beaver leader Marcus Morris. “We assembled in a torrential downpour which was enough to deter even hardy adults, but the children weren’t daunted, and as soon as we set off the rain stopped and we even saw some sun later in the day.”
They raised £1,650 in sponsorship for the charity Children on the Edge
